More tattoo options

Some more options for a tattoo for me:

Tom Servo

Another squid

The Collator by Eric Joyner

A peacock with some cherry blossoms (sorry, I don’t have a good example)

Or post something else, like if you find a really cool picture of Godzilla or something.

Anyway, comment on this post or the last one and let me know what you think.

urgent tattoo question

September 19, 2008 on 6:04 am | In Life In General | 2 Comments

Okay, so I want to get a new tattoo on my upper right arm while I’m in the US because tattoos are cheaper there.  I have a bunch of ideas of what I’d like, but I haven’t decided.  Here are some of my top options.

Super Grover

Godzilla

A squid with some googly fish

These are all designs that represent who I am pretty well, I think.  But I’m not sure which to go with.  Or if I should opt for something entirely different.

Let me know what you think.

Ukulele chords

September 14, 2008 on 4:31 pm | In music | No Comments

I got a new ukulele recently.  It’s a concert size ukulele, and it’s quite nice.  The only problem is that it is tuned to GCEA tuning, not regular guitar tuning, so the chords are all different.  This isn’t a huge problem, since a lot of the ukulele chords are easier than the same chords on the guitar.  But for the guitar I had a nice one-page chord chart and I couldn’t find anything similar for the ukulele.  So I made one myself.

You can download a pdf of my ukulele chord chart here.  You know, if you’re a ukulele playing type person.  It isn’t comprehensive by any means, and I make no guarantees that it is perfect.  But it does seem like a handy thing to have.

(In case you aren’t familiar with this type of chart, there are two chord formations given for each chord, and the numbers are the frets to finger for each string, in GCEA order.)

To all beginning uke players, enjoy!  Let me know if you find any errors or if you know any other chords I’ve missed.

Finally…

I finally got my new computer, to replace the one that was stolen.  It is bigger and kind of nicer than my old one, but I’m still missing all my old stuff.  Plus, it came with Vista and took three days to get connected to the wireless network.  There’s a bug in Vista that makes it unable to properly assign an IP address, so you have to make one up and assign it manually.  And Microsoft absolutely will not admit that this bug exists.  But the important thing is that I found a workaround.

Had to buy a new hamster cage.  Jayne chewed a hole in the side of the old cage.  There’s a new pet store in town, exactly where the old one was, with the same staff and everything.  Which is weird.  But the good part is that their prices are lower now.  The old pet store had tiny hamster cages for about £35.  The new one had the same cage for £15.  I even went all out and got the big two-level cage for £22.  Jayne is now happily climbing the walls, and then falling on her head over and over in a new cage.

Last night Fudge (who is a guinea pig) was either having a weird dream or a seizure.  His butt and hind legs were twitching all over and his eyes were rolling around.  Then he woke up and seemed fine.  My theory is that he was dreaming about humping Elvis.  He misses his old roommate, but Elvis is happier in the other cage, not being humped all day.

Why do you mock me Microsoft?

I finally got a replacement computer for the one that was stolen.  Yet, I’m posting this from my tiny EEE pc.  Why?  Because my new computer came pre-installed with Windows Vista, which I’ve already found to be as retarded as my hamster*.

When I got my little Linux computer, I plugged it in and turned it on, and I was on the internet in a few minutes.  The new computer, which is supposed to be better than my old one, took three reboots and half an hour just to get Windows up and running.  And then I spent the last three hours trying to figure out why it won’t connect to the internet.  I can get it connected to the local network just fine, but that’s as far as it’ll go.  And I can’t find anything else that I can change or adjust to get it working.

So far all I’ve accomplished on my new computer is a game of minesweeper.  I’d gladly trade with the thief who took my old computer.  They could have the shiny new piece of Vista crap if I could have my real computer back.

* In the last week she has chewed a hole in the side of her cage, and she has spent the last two hours climbing up her house, hanging from the bars on top of the cage, and then falling on her head.  Over and over.

The Perfect Storm of Grumpiness

September 3, 2008 on 8:16 pm | In Life In General | No Comments

For the 57th time this year, I’m all stuffed up and my ears are plugged to the point of deafness.  (My dad is mostly deaf, so I always stress when I have ear problems, more than most people would.)

It’s cold and raining.  Again.

I can only breathe through one nostril.

Got my final paperwork from my old job.  I think they underpaid me, but I hate everyone there and don’t want to deal with them so I won’t bother.

Need a vacation.  Except that planning a vacation is part of what’s stressing me out.
